Where are the $5 ATMs?

I was reminded of a couple things at the grocery store yesterday.

Do you have Coinstar machines at your local grocery store? They
are those big green machines you dump your change into and they
spit out a receipt and you can claim the money minus a 7.5%
fee (last I knew).

Now you can get paid in gift cards from many merchants,
including Amazon.com, I-Tunes and Barnes & Noble. The nice
thing is they don't charge you the normal fee for counting
your coins when you get paid in gift cards.

If you need gift ideas or money is tight consider
dumping your large jug of coins in the machine at your local store
if you have one. You can get locations of the machines at the

While I was at the store yesterday I got some cash out of the ATM.
When it came time to ask me how much I wanted, the machine informed
me that I could withdraw in $10 increments. Most ATMs these
days require you to take out at least $20.

It reminded me that several years ago I used to know where all
the $5 ATMs were. That is ATMs that would allow you to take out
only $5. There were not too many of them.

And why would I need to know where I could get only $5 out?
Well, often times I didn't have $20 or even $10 in my account and I
needed cash.

I hope you never have to experience needing cash and having less
than $20 in your account. I have to tell you it's not a fun way to
live.
